When I came across Uashmama (pronounced wash-mama) in 2013 I immediately fell in love with the beautiful simplicity and craftsmanship that held true to my own Italian roots. I was sure family and friends would also fall in love with the bags and the story of the Uashmama famiglia and so my journey began to make Uashmama products available in Canada.

UASHMAMA is a family business based in Tuscany.

The father, Marco, is the creative mind. He spent many years building experience in the shoe business and has significant know how in all that is handcrafted and ‘Made in Italy’. At the same time he was cultivating an interest in new technology. He created a unique ​environmentally friendly ​fabric, washable paper, using a virgin fibre ​developed through cultivation not deforestation. The mother, Emanuela, is the ‘inspiration’ for the brand name. As a matter of fact, UASHMAMA is dedicated to the iconic Italian mother who washes, and who always takes care of her children.

The project began when Emanuela started to sell the first paper bags in her shop, Le sorelle-UASHMAMA. Le sorelle (The sisters), Chiara, Giulia, Gemma and Gaia, are all involved in the family business alongside their parents.
